What did we do today?
- Hiked at Tenorio National Park - Rio Celeste Waterfall
- Walked the trails at Friendship House in the afternoon
Meals: we made our own breakfast and then dinner at Pizzaria El Barrigon
This was our first day where we had significant rain, but thankfully it did not start until the end of our hike at Rio Celeste.
We arrived at the park at 8am and had to wait a few minutes for the gates to open. We decided to first walk to the end of the trail at Tenediros before taking the stairs down to the waterfall. There were very few people on the trail at 8am, but by the time we started heading back toward the waterfall around 9:30 am the trail was getting crowded.
The round trip to the trail end at Tenediros is about 5.5 km, and not too difficult if you are in even moderate shape. The most tricky aspect of the trail would be mud which there could be a lot of if it has been raining. The trail from the parking lot to the waterfall won't be impacted by the rain.
After the hike we stopped for smoothies at the restaurant at the park entrance. We had planned to swim in the Rio Celeste at the river entrance just 5 minutes further up the road, but by then it was raining hard and getting into the cool river was just not very inviting, so we headed back to Bijagua where the sun was shining.
Reviews
Pizzaria El Barrigon: This is a very popular restaurant in Bijagua - lots of locals and tourists. The menu was extensive, which sometimes worries me, but the food was pretty good, and the service was friendly and fast.
